When you examine a cut piece of mayo mat under magnification it looks like a sponge - a material filled with tiny cells. But these cells are closed and cannot hold liquid. In fact, the cells are under pressure. Since our mats our impervious to water and 100% non-absorbent, there is nowhere for bacteria to grow on them. That means healthier teats, better production and better milk.
Usually "non-slip" means a grippy surface.
Our approach to “non-slip” is especially critical for our cow bed products. A “grippy” surface would cause skin abrasion and sore hocks while a cow was laying down. Mayo cow beds do not abrade hocks. We guarantee in writing that a mayo mat will NEVER become abrasive.

Our mats don't rely on friction to make your cows feel secure. Instead we design a material specifically for the pressure exerted by the hoof of a cow. This causes the material to form to the cow’s foot, holding it in its place.
Since our mats are mostly made of air, they only weigh 32lbs per mat. Any able body can pick up, move, clean or install a MayoMat.
A mat needs to be soft enough to invite a cow to lay on it and firm enough to take the weight of her without bottoming out. We know exactly how soft AND firm a mat needs to be to do its job.
